If you ever manage to get a chance to see it you should watch this. http://www.troubleismybusiness.com/

Real kids with real problems in our backyard. They aren't doing a general release of the movie because they felt that it would give too much possibly negative attention to the students in it if their mates could hop down to their local video store to watch it. I was lucky enough to catch it during the short time it was at the movies and it only made we want to be a teacher more.

It makes me think back to a movie from my youth, "Kids". That was a brutal depiction, with the HIV plot, of street life for New York kids. But it seemed plausible because of it was subtle. The early seasons of "The Wire" were the same. Precious had the Oprah -brand seal of approval. That should have been my first warning sign. - L Howard

Not sure about the Dangerfield part, but otherwise I think you've hit the nail on the head, Longinius. Although Precious is still a better movie than Inception.
